newbie question-how not to be mobbed?
hi all, bin playing this on and off for a bit and really like it however have a small problem. how do you avoid getting mobbed by huge packs. i only have a couple of characters, best is in post and ive got as far as altheas ashes. now mostly i play alone with henchies as i cant always play for as lonfg as i'd like and wouldn't like to let a group down mid quest. so i wander along till i see a pack and edge closer till i can target one (ele/monk) then the fun begins and the whole horde seem to swarm my party.dont mind that the warrior types target the healers first, seems like good AI to me. but how do i get past groups of enemies in greater numbers than me.
thanks in advance |

Never attack, if you are a monk. Second, stay on the back, with no hostiles behind you. Third, pretend you are invisible
Never fight back, even if you are attacked. |

I always advocate the use of a longbow (longest range of any weapon) to pull targets - whichever one is closest. The idea in doing this is just to get the attention (from a safe distance) of just a small grouping (usually 3 or 4). This will bring them out from the larger mob, and if you back up a bit, you can create enough room to take out the small group without aggroing everything. Once you get them seperated, you can switch to the high priority target. I find this works much better than trying to catch them with the edge of you aggro circle.

Two other things to keep in mind...
1) Learn how to "pull," meaning when you see a large number of monsters, use a bow or wand and attack them, and walk back so they come to you. 2) Learn the mob structures, and know what to pull/aggro. When you see a huge mob, never rush in. Try to find a patrol in that mob, and pull it out first. These two techniques are a must when playing with henchmen. And remember, Henchmen are only as smart as their leader. |

Keep and eye on your aggro circle in the compass.(The whitish circle around you) Monsters that go into this will attack you. I didnt find this out til recently and have found it a great help since.

Pulling with a bow does not work with henchmen! They will rush in and attack whatever you shoot with your bow. The technique for pulling with henchies is to take advantage of the fact that they tend to lag behind you. Run up till you just touch one baddie with your aggro circle. Quick turn around and run back. Henchies will follow you back as long as they aren't attacked. When a safe distance away from the large pack, turn and target/attack.

Just call the target. First search for the target with Tab, than you shift-Ctrl-space, when the target is just a tad outside your agro circle. You'll see that henchmen instantly attack the target while you are safe on the back.
